Race is defined as including:

• colour

• nationality – which also includes citizenship

• ethnic origin – this depends on a number of factors but it must include a long and shared history and cultural traditions of its own.

It may also include factors such as a common literature, common geographic origin and being a minority group – Sikhs and gypsies have qualified as ethnic minorities whereas Rastafarians have not. An employment tribunal has ruled that caste is also covered by race discrimination in certain circumstances.
